Virtual Schools, Hoosier Children

Hoosiers may have a new alternative for their
children's school experience. The Indiana Dept. of
Education announced that an operator for a virtual charter school pilot program has been authorized by the State's General Assembly.
Virtual schooling has become an increasing choice for college students and is slowly entering the K-12 teaching community. This type of schooling was once only used in a virtual manner by homeschooled families.
According to a media release, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett said, "Parents are looking for options that best meet their students' individual needs."
Like most public, private, charter schools and homeschoolers, a virtual charter school must follow compliance with state and federal laws. Open enrollment for all charter schools will also require the student to have a "reason" to enroll. The government release stated two reasons a student could choose:  a medical disability or "other" circumstance that prevents school attendance, and that the "virtual charter school is a 'better' alternative than a traditional school." What is exactly defined as "better" is not clear, yet individual cases will most likely vary by the students' lifestyle.
The plans include 40 students per grade level with a lottery conducted according to state law when more than 40 apply. Teachers are to be "readily available" for students, attendance is strictly documented, assessment tests including ISTEP+ will be ensured yet no more than 50 miles from a student's home, and reports will be reviewed yearly.

Wacky Wednesday
By: Kari Swartz

Wacky Wednesday was a day for students to show their school pride. But it wasn't the only crazy day of the week we had at Silver Creek High. We had color day, centuries day, redneck day, and favorite team day.

Also for the pep rally, we had orange out and blue out days. It was held the week before thanksgiving break and thanksgiving week.
Old School, or New Skoool?

(sung) "Oh My G* Becky...
          "I'm hooked and I can't stop staring..."
          "She's sweat..."
"Red beans and rice didn't miss her...."
          "Now here's my scandal..."

or

(sung) "I ain't lovin' u ..."
          "Screaming No no no no-no...."
"Keep a secret code  so no one else will know."
          "You lose."
"I can't keep myself and still keep you too..."
"How many times did it take 'till I got thru to you?"

or

(sung) "I don't know where I'm goin'"
"....the promises of the songs of yesterday."
"I keep searchin' for an answer..."
"....to walk along the lonely street of dreams."
"I'm just another heart in need of rescue."
            "Waiting on love's sweet charity."

or

(sung) "Oooohh Hmmm Mmmmm."
          "Do respect me to say..."
"This time has made me strong.... you know..."
"You don't like me you just like the chase."
"I was young and in love....  "
"I'm lovin' myself....   don't come askin' me for help."
